Wednesday is the end of my 2nd Trimester. Yea!!!!
Here is my weekly bump picture.

Photobucket

Currently Sam is the size of a head of cauliflower.

Everything is still going well with my pregnancy.

Chair Rail and Crib Assembly

Chair Rail
Brian finished putting up the chair rail and painting around it so that it looks great. The walls look like they are painted different colors, but it they are both the same. Take a look.
Photobucket

Crib Assembly
When we first took everything out of the box it didn't look very complicated and it ended up not being complicated at all. With the chair rail, I think that it looks really good.

26 Weeks

Even though I just posted a message yesterday, I wanted to post a message today at Week 26. This is also the last week of my 2nd trimester.

I took a picture.

Photobucket

During week 26, Sam is able to touch and hold his feet and make a fist. Brian can hear Sam's heartbeat by pressing his ear against my belly. Brain tissue and neurons are all developing at a rapid pace, increasing Sam's(genius-level?) brain activity and will continue to function at accelerated levels for the first seven to eight years of childhood!

99 Days to Go

I'm so excited that Brian and I are now in double digits. We passed Sam's V-Day (viability date) at week 24 and everything still seems to be going well. Our next appointment will be with our midwife on January 7th.

Here is a visual of the length of Sam- English hothouse cucumber. He now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches.
Photobucket
The "bump" picture below was taken this past Wednesday (Week 25). Another will be taken this Wednesday when we hit 26 weeks.
Photobucket

We are almost finished painting the nursery. Brian was painting the chair rail on Sunday and he should be able to cut and attach it to the walls next weekend. We may even be able to put together the crib next weekend too.

This is also Christmas week so we hope that everyone is safe and has a very, merry Christmas.

Week 24- 6 Month Mark

4 Months to Go-- The countdown begins. It's so exciting to be closer to the end than the beginning.

Here is your weekly visual representation of what the Sam's size is- an ear of corn (unfortunately the quarter does not get any bigger or become more money, Dad)
Photobucket

Things are going well. We ordered Sam's crib last night (along with the rails for it to convert into a full size bed). We should receive the crib in January and the rails by the end of this month.

Week 23

Here is a visual representation of what the Sam's size is this week- a papaya

Photobucket

Things are still going really well. Sam is moving and kicking, but nothing can be felt outside of my belly yet.

I celebrated my birthday this past Sunday and my parents let Brian and I borrow their video camera for documenting Sam's growth. Since it is digital, we can upload the videos to YouTube or another site for everyone's viewing.

We also purchased a webcam so that we can let them talk to Sam "face-to-face" since they are far away in Atlanta.

Week 22- It's a boy!!!

We were so excited to find out on Monday, November 24th that we are expecting a son.

The ultrasound was great. Everything looked normal and Sam was right on target with weight and length.

Here is the fruit/veggie representation of what our son, Sam, looks like.

Photobucket

I will post some ultrasound pictures soon (once I can get them to scan well).

Week 21- I love this belly

I'm in love with my belly. It's so cute and a great reminder that I am baking a family member.

Photobucket

Currently our baby is the length of a carrot (from head to toes).

Dear Non-Pregnant Person

This was listed on a pregnancy message board that I read. I love it. #4 and #5 are my favorites.

Dear Non-Pregnant Person,

I hope you find these guidelines helpful in your interactions with pregnant women as failing to follow them may result in serious physical harm. ..

If you are thinking, surely she doesn't mean me- then you should probably read this twice.

1) The appropriate response to a couple telling you they are having a baby is "Congratulations!" with enthusiasm.

Any other response makes you an a$$

2) Through the wonders of science, we now know that babies are made ONLY by the mother and father- not grandparents. Unless the baby is in your uterus or you are the man that helped put it there, you may not ever use the phrase "my baby".

3) On the same note, unless you made the baby as defined in 2, the pregnancy, birth and raising of the child are not about you.You do not have input. No one wants to hear your opinion unless they ask for it. The same goes for the name of the baby.

4) The body of a pregnant women should be treated the same as any other body. You would not randomly touch someone's stomach if they were not pregnant, nor would you inquire into the condition of their uterus, cervix or how they plan to use their breasts.Pregnancy does not remove all traces of privacy from a woman.

5) Likewise, no women wants to hear comments on her weight- ever.A pregnant woman does not find it flattering that you think she is about is pop, must be having twins, looks swollen or has gained weight in her face.Telling her she looks too small only makes her worry that she is somehow starving her baby. Making such comments invite her to critique your physical appearance and you may not act offended. The only acceptable comment on appearance is "You look fabulous!".

6) By the time we are 20-30 years old, most of us have picked up on the fact that the summer is hot. We are hot every summer when we are not pregnant. We don't need you to point out that we will be miserably hot before the baby comes.

7) There is a reason that tickets to L&D are not yet sold on Ticketmaster. Childbirth is actually not a public event. It may sound crazy, but some women really do not relish the idea of their mother, MIL or a host of other family members seeing their bare butt and genitals. Also, some people simply feel like the birth of their child is a private and emotional moment to be shared only by the parents.Like everything else in life, unless you receive an invitation, you are NOT invited. This includes doctor appointments, ultrasounds, labor, delivery, the hospital and the parents home. You do not decide if you will be there for the birth or if you will move in with the new parents to "help out".If your assistance is desired, rest assured that you will be asked for it.

8) And please do not tell me that I have a ways to go. I am fully aware that pregnancy is 40 weeks and do not need you to point out that I have 148 more days left. AND...do not tell me that it has gone by so fast. Really? Because I think it has gone fast since the first day I knew you were a moron!

9) If you are asked to help after the birth, this means you should cleanup the house, help with cooking meals, and generally stay out of the way.Holding the baby more than the parents, interfering with breastfeeding and sleeping schedules and making a woman who is still leaking fluid from multiple locations lift a finger in housework is not helping.

10) The only people entitled to time with the baby are the parents.Whether they choose to have you at the hospital for the birth or ask for you to wait three weeks to visit, appreciate that you are are being given the privilege of seeing their child.Complaining or showing disappointment only encourages the parents to include you less.I hope this helps- it sure makes us feel better.

Signed,

All Pregnant Women

Week 19

As our country elected a democrat (blech) I have moved onto week 19 of my pregnancy. Everything is still going very well.

Currently our baby is the size of a tomato.
Photobucket

Have a great week!!

Week 18

We have moved onto another vegetable for a visual representation of the size of our baby, a bell pepper.
Photobucket

Everything is still going well with all of us.

We have decided where we are going to give birth. If everything goes as planned (no gestational diabetes, no preeclampsia, no c-section, etc.) we are going to give birth at the Mountain Midwifery Center with a nurse midwife. It is 1/2 block from a major hospital (just in case). We feel that they are the most supportive of our decision to avoid unnecessary medical interventions and are extremely knowledgeable.

To find out more about the Mountain Midwifery Center, please visit www.mountainmidwifery.com.

Week 17

Wednesday marks the start of week 17. Everything is still going really well with Brian and I. He is completing some projects that he needs to complete before we start revamping the guest room into the nursery.

We have picked out paint chip and will test samples on the walls after we get back from our hunting trip over halloween weekend.

Here is a food representation of the size of our baby. A Turnip.
Photobucket

Other Baby Stuff
Your baby during week 17 is now very mobile, gleefully moving his joints here, there and everywhere and will continue to do so as you continue your pregnancy week by week. The cartilage making up the skeleton in your baby's body is starting to transform into bone. At pregnancy 17 weeks time your baby should be hearing things. Your baby will start putting on some layers of fat in the weeks to come, though at this point in time your baby is made up of primarily water.

You may be feeling your baby move intermittently after pregnancy week 17, though as your pregnancy progresses you will likely start feeling your baby move more and more.

Some women find comfort when playing music to their unborn children. There is evidence suggesting that your baby responds to music even while in the womb. Thus, there is no harm in playing some calm and engaging music to your baby even while they are in the womb.

Week 15

I have been pretty bad at writing in my journal too, but my pregnancy is progressing without much drama to report. Today is 15w1d and everything is going well. I have been watching what I eat and walking like I'm supposed to.

Here is some info about the baby's development.

I may begin to feel some fluttering movements as baby kicks, flails, twists and turns (but don't panic if you don't yet). She can also grasp, squint, frown, grimace and maybe suck her thumb!

Your baby's legs have grown longer than the arms and the body is now longer than the head.

And you'll be happy to note that he is moving those arms and legs often!

His skin is very thin -- so thin blood vessel are visible. It's covered by a fine, soft layer of hair called lanugo. Lanugo comes from a Latin word meaning "down." This hair is thought to help insulate your little boy.

The three tiny bones in his middle ear have begun to harden. The auditory centers in your baby's brain haven't developed yet, so she might not really understand what you say but her hearing capacity is in the process of developing.

Fingernails and toenails are growing.

Eyebrows are beginning to grow and even the hair his head is sprouting. It will probably change color and texture after birth.

All this and your little one is an amazing 3.98 inches (10.1cm) long and may weigh 2.47 ounces (70gm).

Here is the approximate size of our baby.

Week 13

We went to the doctors yesterday and our due date was moved to April Fool's Day (from 4/3). We also had another ultrasound done (I will post pictures soon for all to see).

Everything is going well. We are researching hospitals and alternative birthing options to determine which is best for us.

About the size of a peach, your baby's body starts to catch up to the head. Eyes, which start out on the side of the face, move toward the center and the ears move toward the side of the head.

Size: 2.6 to 3.1 inches Weight: .5-.7 ounces

Week 11

Our baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long, is now almost fully formed. The hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under the gums, and some of the bones are beginning to harden. It's already busy kicking and stretching, and the tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as the body grows and becomes more developed and functional. I won't feel our baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that the diaphragm is forming.

Now seeing the lime, I want a Corona, but I will resist.

Week 9

I still haven't had any extensive morning sickness (just some upset stomach and headaches) and I'm grateful. We have our first doctor appointment on Thursday, September 4th. We are both so excited.

Our baby is the size of a green olive.

Week 7

Thank good I have not experienced much morning sickness, just a little nausea.

We are taking our little Buckeye Baby to the Bronco's game tomorrow and we hope that they beat the Cowboys.

Week 5

The average pregnant woman needs about 300 extra calories each day. That's right: extra calories! Being pregnant rocks!

The picture below is the size and shape of our baby.
Size: 5/64 of an inch or 2 millimeters
Weight: Less than 1 gram

"Here I am two millimeters big. I am on the right and on the left my placenta will be formed."

These Past Few Weeks

Obviously nothing too exciting has happened the last few weeks or we would have updated this blog. Yesterday, we went to the Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge. Once we develop the film we will post some of the pics.

I ordered a digital SLR camera on Friday and it should be delivered to my work sometime this week. I'm so excited. It's 10.1 MP and it was on sale. A great sale. Too great to pass up!! Once I start taking some pictures with it, I will put them up.

New MP3 and New Class

Brian bought a Sony 4MB MP3 player with the Best Buy gift cards that he received for Christmas. He has been playing with it and trying to figure out how to upload movies, but it is giving him some difficulty. Right now, he is still within the return policy, so I suggested that if he can't seem to get it to work, he can always try another product.

The first day of my photography class through the Aurora City Parks & Recreation department was last night. I was the only one that brought in an SLR 35mm camera. The other 3 people brought in nice digital SLR cameras with 6MP or higher. I'm so jealous. What I'm hoping to get out of this class is more information about the best way to capture an image and the composition of great pictures.

We are heading up to the mountains this weekend, so I will take my camera and try to work on my composition. The light will probably be too bright, but there is no way that we are getting up there early enough for the sunrise and we are not staying for sunset. We would never get home at a decent hour.

Christmas & New Year's

Brian and I were separated for our 2nd Christmas married. Brian started a new job and didn't have any vacation days and it was our time to be with my parents.

I flew down to FL on Saturday the 22nd to spend the holidays with my parents, my sister and her FI and my grandfather and his wife. There were a few fights but nothing that didn't get patched up by the end of the trip.

Brian stayed in CO and had an extended family dinner on Saturday night. He had to go to work on Monday, and then spent Christmas day at his parent's house. Unfortunately, he had to work on Wednesday too.

My flight back to CO included a layover in GA and didn't land in CO until midnight. We didn't get home until 2am and still had to go to work on Thursday. With 3 hours of sleep we both did pretty well at work.

We will try not to be apart for a major holiday again.
